1. Aims and Titles of the Awards
The overall aim of the Programme of
study is to provide high quality education and training in silicon device
and circuit manufacturing technologies, for engineers employed in the
UK and other parts of Europe.
The aim of the postgraduate part-time
modular Masters Programme is:
- (i) to extend the opportunities
for flexible learning in the field of silicon manufacturing technologies
to individuals [Delegates] and their employers
- (ii) to facilitate the accumulation
of academic Credits to qualifications tailored to the continuing professional
development needs of the individual and his/her employer
- (iii) to provide access to the individual
to the collective strengths and expertise of the Partner Institutions
and thereby provide high quality postgraduate education and training
in "Advanced Silicon Processing and Manufacturing Technologies"
- (iv) to present individuals [Delegates]
with a series of taught modules integrating core material and key
aspects of the 'state-of-the-art'
- (v)to guide individuals [Delegates]
through a demanding Project designed for both its relevance and its
value in training
The Institutions have come together
to deliver a joint Programme, however the awards will be in the name
of individual institutions. Three awards will be available, the Degree
of Master of Science, the Postgraduate Diploma, and the Postgraduate
Certificate, all in Advanced Silicon Processing and Manufacturing Technologies.
The last award may not be available in all the Institutions, as now
- (i) Institutions offering the Degree
of Master of Science,Postgraduate Diploma and Postgraduate Certificate
are: Glasgow, Heriot-Watt, Surrey, Cardiff, Swansea.
- (ii) Institutions offering only the
Degree of Master of Science and a Postgraduate Diploma are: Edinburgh,
Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Southampton.
- (iii) The award of the Degree of
Master of Science with Distinction Is available from: Edinburgh, Glasgow,
Heriot-Watt, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Southampton, Surrey,
